Before World War II, all corduroy was soft to the hand
and wonderful to wear. It was more expensive than other cotton fabrics.
The postwar boom times spurred manufacturers to produce
mass quantities of affordable clothing.
As the price came down, so did cord quality.
The fabric developed a coarser hand. It did become lighter
on the leg because there was less plushness or loft to the goods.
Linea Naturale Corduroy is woven on "velvet" looms. It
is light on the leg because new technology can weave goods denser and finer.
But it is as luxurious as the expensive corduroys of the past.
Because it is so plush, the "nap" of the cord will "flatten"
areas of the pant, causing a temporary bruise. Steam or soft pressing will
release the "nap" and restore the bruised area.
This year's cord is an updated version of the traditional
width. It is the new "11 wale." Meaning, there are eleven ribs to the inch.
It has the plushness of a wide wale combined with the comfort of a pin wale.
Linea Naturale Corduroy is not the least expensive cord on the market.
It is not nearly the most expensive. But we think it is the best value
you can buy. It can be dressed up for Professional Business Casual. It
can be dressed down for looking good while you are hanging out.
